The next YA Salsa Sunday  Social is May 26, 2013 ! 

 

The YA Salsa Social is Detroit’s biggest salsa dance party. Hosted once per month by YA Salsa, attendees have the chance to learn salsa from some of the best instructors in Metro Detroit.

WHAT: $10 at the door gets you:

• • Beginner & Intermediate and On2 Salsa Lesson starting at 5:30 p.m.!
  • Endless Beverages & Snacks!
  • A huge wooden dance floor!
  • The hottest salsa tracks spun by our volunteer guest DJs

5 Week Cuban Salsa Workshop with Duane Wrenn

The excitement is starting to build for the 5 week Cuban Salsa workshop series with Duane!  The class will be held Wednesdays from 7-8:30pm at the Phoenix Center with an open practice until 9pm.  This workshop is designed for people who already know how to dance, and want to learn more about Cuban rhythms and Afro-Cuban body movement as they apply to dancing Casino and Rueda de Casino.  Rueda is the Spanish word for wheel. Once you sharpen your Casino you will put it to the wheel and round you go! One person calls out moves to the other dancers and directs the energy and flow of the wheel.

So what are you going to do with the only Saturday you get this week? Lose the sweatpants and don't even think about wasting your money in a bar. You're coming to a place where you can be comfortable, hang out with friends, and move to some awesome music! We have a special treat for you at the Dance Revolution party this weekend!  In addition to Salsa, Bachata, Merengue & Cha Cha in the big room, we will have West Coast Swing in the small room from 9pm-1am.  

Don't know how to do West Coast Swing?  No problem, Jeff is an excellent teacher! Check out his lesson from 7-8pm.  All levels are welcome. We are also offering 3 Salsa lessons this Saturday: Level 1 from 7-8pm and Level 3 from 8-9pm in the big room with Laura, Level 2 from 8-9pm in the small room with Tre and Janani.

The next few weeks will be a great time for you to fine tune your dancing before May, when we will have a special guest instructor! Take a cue from nature and put in a little extra effort to help your Salsa skills bloom.  Spring might not exactly have it's hold on the Mitten yet, but hopefully by the time Duanne Wrenn is teaching at the Phoenix Center, jackets will be optional. What's not optional is coming to at least one of his classes!

FRIDAY, April 12, "¡La Peña Mundial!" is hosting TANGO CALLEJERO, an unique TANGO DANCE PARTY at La Strada on East 4th Street in down town Cleveland starting at 8:00 pm. Come for dinner to either watch Cleveland's fantastic tango community or join in and dance!

NO COVER... FREE ENTRANCE!

La Strada which means "The Street" in Italian, at 2050 East 4th Street, next to Lola's and near the House of Blues, succeeds in creating the feeling that you are outside on the street in the old world. As such, La Strada is the ideal place to hold a "street tango" party, if the weather is nice we could actually dance outside also! :)

Come and enjoy La Strada's incredible Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. Have dinner before the dance or during, either way is fine because there are plenty of tables. Some with a view of the dance area and some away from it where it's more quiet. This is a party! Invite everyone you know regardless if they tango or not, they will have fun!

Mostly TRADITIONAL TANGO will be played at Tango Callejero but you will nuevo and alternative tangos also...

As it stands on any evening La Strada's old world street atmosphere is wonderful but on this evening we will transform La Strada into even a more romantic and exciting place to dance tango!

The entire tango community is coming out for this special event to share tango with the community at large. Dance or not, it will be a very romantic evening! Tango Callejero receives a high level of interest so don't miss this special tango dance event.

Valet parking is available right by the entrance to La Strada so no matter the weather dress up and come down for an elegant old world evening of Tango dancing. On the same block is a very large garage that provides very inexpensive parking.

TANGO CALLEJERO literally translates from Spanish to "Street Tango".
